Wiles earns All-American honor in javelin

Muskingum senior Tristen Wiles earned All-American honors after placing eighth in the javelin at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Veteran's Memorial Field Complex in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Wiles' throw of 131-00 propelled her to eighth place in the 22-competitor field. She hit the mark on her second attempt of six throws. Wiles becomes Muskingum's first All-American in the outdoor season since 2005 when Jamie Eastham finished fifth in the shot put.

Wiles entered the javelin championship field ranked seventh in the nation. She qualified with her school-record throw of 145-5 that she set at the Grand Valley State Last Chance Meet. Earlier in the spring, Wiles won the All-Ohio Championship and the All-Ohio Athletic Conference Championship en route to being the top javelin thrower in Ohio and earning All-Ohio and All-OAC honors.
