Track & Field shines at Last Chance meet as school records fall

Muskingum senior Tristen Wiles and senior Nick Despot each set the school record in the javelin at the Grand Valley State Last Chance Meet on Wednesday afternoon.

Wiles won the women's javelin with a school-record throw of 145-5, which also propelled her to a national ranking of sixth in Division III.

Despot won the men's javelin with a school-record heave of 192-10, which lifted his national ranking to 26th.

Senior Jeffrey Burkholder finished eighth in the men's shot put with a toss of 46-10.75. He currently ranks 15th in Division III with a mark of 52-8.

Senior Blake Weidner took second in the long jump with a leap of 22-5.25 and placed sixth in the high jump with a clearance of 6-2.75.

Junior Wade Floyd placed 14th in the men's discus with a mark of 128.8.

Sophomore Emily Ellyson competed in the high jump and missed on three attempts to record a no height.

Muskingum will continue its quest to qualify student-athletes for the national meet when it competes at the Baldwin Wallace Last Chance Meet on Friday, May 11.
