Muskingum Alum Josh Boyer (’00) looking to repeat as Super Bowl Champion with New England

Josh Boyer ('00), the New England Patriots cornerbacks coach, will look to help lead New England to another Super Bowl Championship after the Patriots defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Conference Championship game on Sunday. The Patriots will play the Philadelphia Eagles in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Sunday, February 4.

Boyer will be making his fifth Super Bowl appearance since joining the New England staff. He helped lead the Patriots past the Tennessee Titans and the Jacksonville Jaguars in the National Football League (NFL) playoff games. The Patriots vs. Jaguars game did not disappoint as fans got to witness New England rally for a 24-20 comeback win after trailing by 10 points early in the fourth quarter. The Jaguars had one last opportunity to score a touchdown on fourth down with 1:30 to go in regulation. Jacksonville's quarterback Blake Bortles threw the ball to his receiver, but the Patriots cornerback, Stephen Gilmore, knocked the ball away to seal the come-from-behind victory.

Boyer, has been the cornerbacks coach for the past six seasons for New England. He started working for the Patriots in 2006 as a coaching assistant for three years and then moved to coaching the defensive backs for the next three years. During his time in New England, Boyer has helped the defensive unit lead the NFL in interceptions and turnover differential. Boyer has won two Super Bowl championships with the Patriots (2015, 2017).

While Boyer was at Muskingum, he as was a two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree in 1998 and 1999, while also earning All-Ohio Athletic Conference accolades as a defensive back for the Muskies football team in 1999. He graduated from Muskingum in 2000 with a degree in physical education and health.
