Five Muskingum Student-Athletes Take Trip of a Lifetime to Costa Rica

This past summer, five Muskingum University student-athletes took a trip of a lifetime to Costa Rica where they played, participated, and taught sports clinics for their particular sport while being able to explore the area. Women soccer players Lauren Mckell and Tori Stuard, and volleyball players Chloe Brandewie, MacKenzie O'Shea, and Jordan Youngs were there from May 15th-23rd at the Beyond Sports Costa Rica Soccer and Volleyball Tour.

In 2010, Beyond Sports was founded as the first study abroad program designed specifically for student-athletes. Since they originated, over 350 student-athletes from different colleges across the country have taken part in this program. Programs run during the semester, January term, and summer in Cosa Rica, South Africa, Spain, and Australia.

While in Costa Rica, these student-athletes not only got to play with some of the best college athletes in their sport, they got to play against some of the best. They were able to take on Costa Rica's top club teams, which included players from the National Soccer and Volleyball Teams.

The student-athletes also got to participate and teach sport clinics to the Costa Rican Youth at a local school in San Jose and with Special Olympics of Costa Rica.

When they were not playing or teaching, they got to explore Cosa Rica, visiting the Manuel Antonio National Park and Volcano Arenal.
