Lucas and Mathews honored by SAAC

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that football senior offensive lineman Sam Lucas and volleyball sophomore setter Taylor Mathews have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for October.

Lucas is the anchor and leader of the Muskie offensive line. He is a two-year captain and two-year All-OAC honoree. This season, Lucas has helped the Muskies churn out 253.6 yards of offense per game.

Mathews was named the OAC Volleyball Player of the Week after helping to lead the Muskies to a 3-0 record during the final week of the regular season. The strong finish propelled Muskingum into the OAC Tournament as the four-seed. Mathews leads the team with 996 assists and ranks fourth in the OAC.

SAAC Muskies of the Month nominees are nominated by Muskingum coaches and voted on by SAAC representatives from Muskingum's 21 varsity sports.

The mission of SAAC is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity and communication between the student-athletes and athletics administration, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image on campus and in the New Concord community. SAAC representatives have dedicated themselves to helping and promoting their fellow student-athletes, Muskingum and the community. Their efforts have helped to enhance a tradition of involvement by Muskingum student-athletes.
