Information for Visiting Teams

Facilities

The Kalnow Athletic Training Room is located on the ground floor of the John Glenn Gymnasium building. The room is accessible from the lower main entrance of the Recreation Center. The room opened in August of 2008 and features all of the necessary equipment for the Athletic Training staff. Modalities include but are not limited to Electrical Muscle Stimulation, Ultrasound, Ice, Paraffin, and Hydrotherapy (Grimm Scientific plunge tanks).

The Athletic Training Department also takes advantage of the extensive fitness and strength training facilities located in the Recreation and John Glenn buildings.

The offices for the Athletic Training staff are located in the Kalnow facility.

Emergency room locations

There are two hospital-based Emergency Rooms within 30 minutes of campus. New Concord has an emergency medical system with highly trained EMTs and Paramedics. The Athletic Training staff operates under an Emergency Plan that includes the mechanisms to activate emergency services. The Emergency Rooms typically used include:

Genesis Hospital (Zanesville)
Directions from New Concord: Take I 70 west to Zanesville. Take the Maple Ave. exit. Continue on Maple Ave. for two miles. Take a take a left at Balls Lane and the hospital will be straight ahead.

Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center (Cambridge)
Directions from New Concord: Take I 70 east to Cambridge. Take the Cambridge Exit #. Turn left on to SR 209. SR 209 will dead end in front of Guernsey County Courthouse. Turn right on to Wheeling Ave. After about 3/4 of a mile turn left on to Clark Street. The hospital is located after a few miles on the left hand side of the road.

Provisions for Visiting Teams

It is our pleasure to host many athletic teams from the Ohio Athletic Conference and beyond. Our goal is to make the typical provisions for teams and the traveling Athletic Training personnel. The Ohio Athletic Conference outlines various minimum provisions for visiting teams. We recommend contacting our staff to make us aware of any unusual requests or needs.

The Ohio Athletic Conference Trainers will not provide any electro modality use to visiting team members in the absence of a visiting Certified Athletic Trainer. Teams visiting from outside of Ohio should be aware of Ohio Law with regard to the practice of Athletic Training.

We routinely provide ice water, injury ice, and biohazard supplies. We may also provide cups. We ask teams to supply their own water bottles and towels. Football and basketball teams will also be provided water for their locker room.

A Physician will be in attendance during all home football games and wrestling matches. An Emergency Squad will be on-site during all home football games.

The Athletic Training staff uses a variety of resources to monitor inclement weather. We follow NCAA recommendations with regard to dangerous weather, including lightning.
